The 2020 Interior Design Trends to Look Out For

Joy Richards - December 30, 2019 Hi, I’m Joy - Happy Beds' Sleep Specialist. Aside from Italian food and my three lovely boys, nothing makes me happier than helping our customers find what works for them, and how they can make the most of their forty winks.

The 2020 Interior Design Trends to Look Out For

2020 is just around the corner, and with the new year comes new beginnings, making it the perfect time to transform your home. Want to know what trends to look out for in the year ahead? Then stay bang up to date using the below tips:

Introduce Texture Throughout

At Happy Beds, we’re big fans of using texture in interior design to create depth. Furniture with texture is so tactile and inviting, and provide a simple way of adding interest without the need to use bold colours.

Boucle is making a big comeback at the moment, in both fashion and interior décor. Teamed with stitching and knits, it works wonderfully on throw blankets or cushions.

Go Glam with Eclectic Items

More isn’t necessarily more, but in this case, it is. In contrast to other popular trends like hygge, eclectic glam décor pairs bright colours and interesting pieces to create excitement any way you look.

Think whimsical and modern, don’t shy away from colour, and make bold choices. Have fun with it!

Our Fenwick Black and Gold Range of storage furniture fit right in with this emerging trend, as does our Warwick Blue Velvet Ottoman Bed.

Keep Nordic In Your Life

From soft minimalist textiles to light wooden furniture, Nordic design has had a big influence on our décor over recent years and that’s not set to change anytime soon.

Nordic style is all about functionality and ensuring beauty in the everyday. Clean lines, natural materials, and cosy textiles are all essentials for pulling off this trend. Plus, don’t forget a house plant or five!

I think our Urban Rustic Large Floating Shelf would look wonderful in any hygge or lagom inspired space. Alternatively, why not take the style further with one of our European double mattress size beds?

Embrace the Exotic with Soft Tropics

We all love to relax on holiday or explore another country, so why not bring a touch of the exotic into your home with the tropical 2020 interior design trend?

With jungle leaf patterns, softwoods like bamboo, lots of linen, and plenty of plants, this décor theme can bring a touch of warmth to even the rainiest of UK streets.

If you’re feeling brave, team palm print wallpaper on your walls with pops of zingy yellow in accentuating accessories. For something a little safer, choose the same prints but in less saturated tones, and cut the commitment by placing them on soft furnishings rather than the walls. That way, if you want to change things up, you can.

We think our Ellis Green Fabric Armchair would work perfectly for this scheme.

Take a look at the Pantone of the year!

Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2020 has been revealed as a shade of green named Tranquil Dawn.

The Pantone is a cool-tone green which Dulux says ‘embodies the nation’s mood on the approach of a new decade’ and provides an antidote to an ‘increasingly disconnected’ modern society.

Sitting somewhere between green, blue and grey, the decorating giant encourages trend-setters to team the colour of the year with soft, sandy tones for a relaxed and nurturing environment.
