5 Ideas For The Perfect Dinosaur Bedroom

5 Ideas For The Perfect Dinosaur Bedroom

Dinosaurs have held the imagination of adults and children alike for hundreds of years. From the fossils Mary Anning found in Dorset to the blockbuster franchise Jurassic Park, these ancient creatures have remained a beloved favourite. So, if your child is dino-mad, they're joining a long history of other budding palaeontologists!

What better way to encourage their love of dinosaurs than with their very own dino-themed bedroom? They'll be roaring to bed when they have their own Jurassic World to spend time in! We've come up with 5 fantastic ideas to create the perfect dinosaur bedroom for your little one, so read on to find out how to bring your child's passion to life.

How to create a dinosaur-themed bedroom

1. Create a mural with paint or decals

Immerse your child in the prehistoric world of dinosaurs by making their bedroom walls reflect the time! Start with a neutral wall base, such as cream or olive green. Then, you can add the details, whether olive green plants and trees to create a classic rainforest or jungle theme or carefully painting some of your little one's most beloved dinosaurs.

You don't have to do the detailed painting yourself if you're not up to it – consider hiring someone to bring the dinosaurs to life in the bedroom! Alternatively, use decals if you do not feel like doing something as permanent as paint. These are temporary, meaning they can be changed if their favourite dinos change or decide they're not into dinosaurs.

2. Choose a fun bed

The kids' beds of today are packed with fun features, so they're perfect for a dino-themed bedroom! If your child is over 6, a mid-sleeper or high-sleeper could be an excellent option. These beds often feature extra storage options such as drawers, a built-in desk, or a wardrobe. This means more space for playtime! Check out our guide on mid and high-sleepers, or find out more about the different types of kids' beds available for more information.

Many of our most popular children's beds come in neutral colours such as white, black or classic wooden colours. This means you can extend your decorating to cover the bed, use paint, apply decals, or even put up dinosaur posters. If their bed includes integrated shelving, then they can show off their favourite dinosaurs in figurine form, too!

3. Add dinosaur decorations

It's time to source out everything dinosaur-themed you can – from Tyrannosaurus lamps to Brachiosaurus bookends. Take advantage of sites like Etsy, where you can get handmade items to create a customised bedroom for your child. Maybe you'll find a way to give them a personalised nameplate on their door or fun dino-patterned curtains and bedding.

Outside of the decorations, don't forget to kit out their bedroom with all the dinosaur toys and plushies they could need to create their adventure. Make sure there's enough storage for them to store these away – you want to recreate the feel of a jungle, not make it an actual jungle to walk through!

4. Create a dino den

Giving your child a designated space in their bedroom to play will help keep the room tidy while also giving them a safe space solely for them. If possible, create a space like this in a corner of their room with a fun tent or drape dino-print fabric over the surrounding furniture to give them their own 'den'.

Alternatively, if you've opted for a mid-sleeper or high-sleeper bed, space underneath the frame can be used for their den. This means you won't need any extra space in their bedroom and get more value from their furniture! Fill up the den with everything they need to make it inviting and fun, from soft toys to dino lights.

Rainforest

5. Add plants for a jungle feel

Think back to Jurassic Park; one of the key features is the lush rainforest and jungles the dinosaurs inhabit. Whilst painting these on your child's bedroom walls is one way to bring these forests to life, an even better way is to incorporate actual plants! Some plants offer great benefits for sleep, as outlined in our best bedroom plants article, and they can be perfect for adding to that 'wild' feeling.

When choosing plants for a child's bedroom, ensure your child is old enough to understand that they shouldn't be playing with the plants and won't knock the plant pots over! On the other hand, it can be a great way to encourage your child to learn about caring for something, and you could make looking after the plants a routine.
