5 Tips To Sleep Comfortably With Your Partner

5 Tips To Sleep Comfortably With Your Partner

We all like to sleep comfortably. This can sometimes be difficult when sleeping with a partner, and it can be even worse if they are a fidgeter, having them wriggle or elbow you. You can’t get comfortable as it is either too warm or cold, they could be a wriggler, or you could fight over the covers.

We believe this shouldn’t happen when sleeping with a partner, and you should be comfortable in bed without being woken up constantly. But how can you do this when you both have to share the same bed? It's not a completely lost cause, though!

Here at Happy Beds, we've come up with some great tips to sleep comfortably, even with your bed partner.

Top tips to sleep comfortably with your partner

1. Try different sleeping positions

Firstly, we'd recommend trying different sleeping positions. What might work best for someone else might not work best for you. For example, spooning works for some couples but might not work for you, or your partner could potentially end up with a numb limb. Try sleeping back to back or face to face, instead! Work out what works best for you and your partner, so you both feel comfortable at night.

There are many different sleeping positions to choose from. It’s just all about finding the right one for both of you!

2. Cuddle before sleep and not during the night

If you like your cuddles, have them before you go to sleep. Cuddling whilst trying to sleep means a higher chance that you or your partner's arm will fall asleep before you do, which could make you feel uncomfortable! This could also make sleeping at night very hot, and there's nothing worse in warm weather than being made even hotter!

3. Have separate covers

Try to have different covers from your partner, especially if you are the type of person that fights over the covers. It can also solve temperature issues whilst in bed so you can feel as warm as you want.

For this, you could use the Scandinavian Sleep Method. It’s a method where you use two separate single duvets or blankets instead of a double or king-size duvet. It’s excellent for cocooning in your blanket, no stealing, and you can have your own temperature in bed! A downside is that it does make it harder to make the bed.

4. Get a new mattress

Still not getting a night of good sleep? What about getting a new mattress? If you've had your mattress for a while, then it's recommended that you upgrade as, according to the Sleep Foundation, a mattress should be changed every six to eight years. Different types of mattresses are available; you can get a memory foam mattress, an orthopaedic mattress or a spring mattress.

A memory foam mattress is crafted using a temperature-sensitive foam that adjusts to your body which helps relieve pressure points. An orthopaedic mattress is designed to contour your body and minimise pressure points, whereas there are two types of spring mattresses: pocket spring mattresses and open coil spring mattresses. Pocket sprung mattresses are particularly ideal for couples, as the springs move independently of each other!

5. Go to bed at different times

Why not try going to bed at different times if needed? If one of you snores or sleep talks, it may be best for you to go to bed before them to drift off to sleep before they do. Some people take longer to fall asleep than others, making sleeping frustrating if your partner snores.

It takes an average of 30 minutes for a person to fall asleep, but you or your partner might be fighting your internal body clock, which can lead to you being grumpy the next day. Try going to bed at different times to see if it will help you fall asleep better!
