What is a Gel Mattress? (And, Why You Should Buy One?)

So, you’ve heard of pocket sprung and memory foam, but what’s this fancy new option of a ‘gel mattress’? Well, we try our best to bring you the latest in comfort here at Happy Beds – find out all about gel mattresses and their benefits here.

What is a Gel Mattress?

When describing a product as a ‘gel mattress’, most retailers will mean a gel-infused memory foam mattress. These are similar to the standard memory foam mattress but come with a few added bells and whistles.

Gel mattresses are great for regulating sleep temperature as they increase air circulation, rather than trapping body heat in the mattress like their classic counterparts. They also spring back to shape quickly after weight and pressure are removed. That means you get all the comfort and support of a standard memory foam mattress, as well as stability when your partner rolls over, with the added extra of a mattress designed to wick away heat and keep you cool throughout the night.

So, you can say goodbye to sleeping with one leg in and one leg out of the covers, under the gentle breeze of a cooling fan, and hello to cuddling up under the blankets!

Alternatively, if you’d like the cooling benefits of gel without replacing your mattress, why not try a gel foam mattress topper? Lay this pad on top of an existing mattress for added comfort and cooling benefits at an affordable price.

What Are the Best Gel Mattresses?

In my opinion, some of the best gel memory foam mattresses utilise classic elements with a modern twist. For example, here at Happy Beds, we stock LayGel mattresses. These are memory foam mattresses infused with 20mm of cool LayGel, teamed with individually wrapped pocket springs.

I love these as they’re not only heat sensitive, making them great during muggy summer nights, but they also help protect against allergies and asthma attacks - perfect for those who suffer at night! Of course, as with all our mattresses, they’re made to British Standards and approved by the National Bed Federation.

Or, if you’d prefer something a little different, why not try one of our aloe vera 1500 pocket sprung foam mattresses? Instead of being infused with LayGel, these are enriched with (yes, you’ve guessed it!) aloe vera for a soothing night’s sleep which aids skin cell regeneration.
