Here at Happy Beds, we always want people to sleep well. Whether through a comfy new mattress, a stylish new bed or by providing plenty of sleep tips on our blog, we always look for ways to improve people's sleep in the UK. We're also interested in working with our local community and trying to find ways to get involved with charities!
As such, we're happy to announce that we've been working with our local branch of The Salvation Army to raise funds for their work and ensure good sleep for everyone. We've put together this blog to explore a little more about who The Salvation Army is and what we've done with them!
Who are The Salvation Army?
The Salvation Army is a registered charity and Christian church in the UK and Ireland that has operated for over 150 years. It has over 650 churches and community centres that work to provide support, friendship, and practical help to anyone who needs it, from people who are homeless to older people, those with addictions or struggling to put food on the table, and much more.
One way that The Salvation Army raises funds is through its charity shops. Did you know that they opened one of the first charity shops in the 19th century? Charity shops are an excellent way for people to give second-hand items a new lease of life while contributing to the charity at the same time.
How is Happy Beds helping The Salvation Army?
We work closely with the Batley branch of The Salvation Army's charity shops, donating items we can't sell as brand new. Don't worry - all the items we send are in excellent condition and can be sold second-hand; we just can't sell them new on-site. But this means that The Salvation Army benefits, and people shopping for a bargain can get a great-quality bed or bedroom furniture at an affordable price while giving to charity!
The items we donate to The Salvation Army are sold in their charity shop to raise more funds, allowing them to transform more lives in the UK. Sometimes, The Salvation Army receives referrals and will donate our beds and bedroom furniture to those who cannot afford it, ensuring everyone can get a good sleep regardless of circumstances.
What have Happy Beds accomplished so far?
So far, Happy Beds has donated over 49 items to The Salvation Army! These items have a value of over £18,000 and generate over £4,000 when sold in our local Salvation Army charity shop. So, instead of throwing away or destroying these items because we can't sell them, we've helped give many people better sleep and raised lots of money for The Salvation Army.
Raising money for charity means that more people will benefit from The Salvation Army's services. According to their website, £12 can provide a food parcel to a hungry person, £30 can top up the electricity for a week for a struggling family, and £54 can pay for the cost of an officer to run a Salvation Army centre for a day - benefiting the local community.
At Happy Beds, we're determined to ensure everyone gets a good night's sleep, and we look forward to working closely with The Salvation Army in the future!
