It’s official: the colour of the year for 2019 is ‘coral’!
Pantone, the provider of professional colour standards, has revealed that Pantone 16-1546 ‘Living Coral’ is the must-use shade of the year. I love this bright orange colour with golden undertones and can’t wait to begin introducing it into my home. Are you tempted to do the same?
What Does the Pantone of the Year 2019 Evoke?
Living coral is described by Pantone as ‘animating and life-affirming’ and a colour that represents how we get energy from nature. This vibrant yet mellow colour is inspired by the stand-out shades from the bottom of the sea and should provide warmth to any home.
Pantone says this ‘authentic’ colour will ‘enable connection and intimacy’ in our world which is now dominated by digital technology and social media. Symbolising optimism and joyful pursuits, we’re certain a coral bedroom is sure to help you feel brighter in the morning.
How to Use the Living Coral Colour in Your Home Décor
Coral colour décor lends itself to all ages and genders meaning you could use it throughout the home. Need a little inspiration? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Check out a few of my favourite ideas for introducing coral colour décor:
Create a Feature Wall
The simplest way to inject this colour into your home is to head down to your local DIY store and pick up a pot of paint.
A living coral feature wall can create a great focal point in a room and brighten up any space. However, I wouldn’t recommend painting every wall in this shade. Instead, pair with soft white and cream for a calm and positive space.
I love the idea of painting the wall behind your bed with this shade, as it will complement your fabulous headboard. It would look amazing in the morning sun! Team with accessories in a complementary shade of blue or highlight with a pop of gold to really make this colour of the year pop.
Update Your Soft Furnishings
If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and paint an entire wall in this shade or know you’ll want to update your home as soon as Pantone 2020 is revealed, switching up your soft furnishings is a handy alternative.
Whether it’s an accent pillow placed on one of our gorgeous ottoman beds, a lamp shade, or a shaggy rug, soft furnishings can help you embrace coral bedroom décor without having to commit long-term.
Get Back to Nature
Living coral is inspired by nature, so why not adapt the same influence in your décor? I love the smell of fresh flowers, and this is a simple and effective way of staying bang on colour trend.
One of my favourite flowers in the coral charm peony, but these can be hard to come by. Coral gerbera daisies, delphinium and crocosmias are much more affordable, and can be picked up from most supermarkets.
If you’re not the best at remembering to water plants or fill up a vase, displaying shells, or even coral itself, can make a beautiful ornamental feature. Place on a bedroom dresser, windowsill or desk as an ideal accent accessory.
