What is a cabin bed?

A cabin bed is an elevated sleeper with room underneath that can be used as storage or a secondary play area. It's particularly ideal for small bedrooms, as many of our cabin beds come with storage options such as drawers, shelves, or even a desk!

Our kids bed buying guide explains more about the types of kids' beds we offer at Happy Beds.

Are cabin beds safe?

Cabin beds feature plenty of safety features to ensure your little one can remain safe and secure at night. These include tall safety railings along the sides of the bed, easy-to-use ladders, and sturdy construction. All our cabin beds for kids are built to the highest British safety standards with high-quality materials to give you peace of mind.

What age is a cabin bed suitable for?

We recommend that children over the age of 6 use a cabin bed, as they must be big enough to climb into the bed on their own without the risk of falling out. This applies to both mid-sleepers and high-sleepers, though a low-sleeper cabin bed is suitable for children over 4.

What storage options do cabin beds have?

Our cabin beds include various storage options, including:

  • Drawers - Many of our cabin beds feature drawers that can be pulled open to store various items, from clothing to games. Some cabin beds with drawers have special drawer units that can be conveniently moved.
  • Shelves - From built-in shelving along the front of the bed to shelving units located at the end of the bed and even shelves along the back of the bed, there are plenty of ways to display their favourite items!
  • Desks - Your child can easily complete schoolwork and more with a cabin bed with a desk, whether it's a pull-out desk that can be easily pushed underneath the bed when not in use or a built-in desk at the end!

Do cabin beds need special mattresses?

Yes, we recommend that a cabin bed use a mattress no more than 16cm in height. This height will allow the safety railings to work as designed – anything higher could lead to accidents, which should be avoided! Look at our range of bunk bed mattresses to find something that will work perfectly in a cabin bed.

Do cabin beds come with mattresses?

If you're looking to buy a cabin bed with a mattress, we recommend checking out our bed and mattress set range, which features beds with mattresses included! Otherwise, you can choose which mattress you would like when you are on the product page of your chosen cabin bed.
