A standard double bed is 6 foot 3 inches in length (190cm, 75") x 4 foot 6 inches in width (135cm, 54"). They are designed to accommodate a double mattress. As the most popular bed size in the UK, a double bed provides enough room for two adults to sleep comfortably. It is also a great choice for single sleepers, such as teenagers, who want extra space to stretch out.

Smaller than a king size bed, a double bed is a good fit for most UK bedrooms offering more space than a single bed. To make sure you get the right fit, it’s worth checking the specific dimensions of your chosen bed frame. Depending on the style you choose, you may find the frame is slightly larger than the dimensions of a standard double bed frame.

Is a double bed the same as two single beds?

No, a double bed isn't double the size of a single. Double and single beds are both 6'3” in length; however, a double bed is 4'6” in width compared to a single, which is 3'0” wide. So, while a double bed offers more space than a single, it isn't twice the size.

Is a double bed a queen-sized bed?

Because a double bed is one size smaller than a king size bed, many people assume it is a queen size bed. However, a queen-sized bed is actually a small double bed, so wider than a single but narrower than a double.
