Double mattresses for maximum comfort

A double mattress is a happy medium between a king-size mattress and a single mattress. If space is at a premium, you will have enough space to stretch out at night without your bed dominating a room. Our double mattresses are designed to provide maximum comfort, no matter what you need to sleep peacefully at night. If you prefer a firm, supportive mattress, we have a collection of pocket-sprung double mattresses that will distribute weight evenly, making them ideal for couples. We also have reflex foam double mattresses if you're looking for the ultimate comfort throughout the night.

Double mattresses FAQs

Double mattresses are the versatile workhorses of the mattress world. They offer plenty of comfort and support in a size suitable for almost every home! Find out more about them with our frequently asked questions.

What size is a double mattress?

A double mattress measures 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in or 135cm x 190cm. It's the perfect size for couples or anyone who wants a lot of space to themselves, and it will fit into the main bedroom in most UK homes! Not sure if this size is right for your bedroom? Check out our mattress size guide for more info!

What types of double mattresses are available?

We sell double bed mattresses to suit any sleeper, with our most popular types being:

Double memory foam mattresses

Enjoy complete and personalised support throughout the night with a double memory foam mattress. They use your body heat to mould to your curves, giving you customised support before bouncing back to its original shape in the morning.

Double orthopaedic mattresses

A double orthopaedic mattress is ideal for those who suffer from lower back pain or achy joints! They are comfy but help to promote healthy spinal alignment as you sleep, relieving pressure on your body.

Double pocket sprung mattresses

Pocket-sprung mattresses are great for solo sleepers or couples who move around often at night. That's because a double pocket spring mattress consists of thousands of individually wrapped pocket springs that work independently from each other, reducing the amount of movement you experience.

Double open coil spring mattresses

If you're looking for an affordable mattress that still offers high levels of support, then a double open coil spring mattress is the perfect solution. These are also called Bonnell springs or traditional and consist of interlinked springs that evenly distribute weight.

Double latex foam mattresses

Offering the same level of custom support as memory foam, our double latex foam mattresses are also hypoallergenic, thanks to their latex foam construction. This makes them great for sleepers with allergies or asthma!

Double hybrid mattresses

A double hybrid mattress combines the support of foam and springs in one comfortable mattress, giving you the best of both worlds. They can be made of pocket or open coil springs, with layers of comfy memory, latex, or reflex foam.

What firmness ratings do double mattresses come in?

Choosing the right firmness for your mattress can determine whether you get a restful sleep or night, which is why we stock double mattresses in the following firmness ratings:

Buying the wrong mattress firmness can lead to interrupted sleep alongside aches and pains during the day, so knowing which firmness suits you best is essential. Finding your perfect firmness rating is determined by multiple factors, including:

  • Your weight
  • Your personal preference
  • Any injuries you might have
  • Your sleeping position

In our mattress guides, we've got plenty of advice to help you buy the right 4ft6 mattress, from the best for back pain to side sleepers and more.

Is a double mattress suitable for couples?

Yes, a mattress double is the most popular choice for couples across the UK! That's because they offer enough room for couples to sleep comfortably without occupying too much space in a bedroom. If you'd rather have a little more room to sleep, then a king-size mattress could be a great option if you can accommodate a king-size bed.

Can I recycle a double mattress?

Yes, you can recycle a double bed mattress, and we offer a mattress recycling service that can be added at checkout. This service will remove your old mattress when your new one is delivered! Alternatively, you could always see if your local council can collect it, dispose of it at a local tip if this is an option, or try donating or selling it if it's still in good condition.
