What is a Memory Foam Mattress?
You’ve probably heard of all the benefits of memory foam, but what exactly is it? Developed by NASA, memory foam consists of polyurethane and viscoelastic cells which creates space for air to move through it.
This results in memory foam’s biggest benefit: the ability to react to heat and body shape for an extra comfy, snug sleep.
So, no matter what body type you may have, memory foam’s materials allow it to adapt and shape to you.
Are Memory Foam Mattresses Firm or Soft?
Much like a regular spring mattress, the firmness of a memory foam mattress depends on the make and model.
Memory foam mattresses distribute weight evenly, so if you prefer a firmer mattress, then you won’t have any problems with memory foam. Since firm mattresses depend on balance, a memory foam mattress offers similar benefits.
On the other side, if you like your mattresses less firm, a soft memory mattress will be fine, too. Generally, they tend to be softer than spring mattresses because they contour to your body.
However, as mentioned, it varies on a mattress-by-mattress basis. There are plenty of firm or soft memory foam mattresses in the Happy Beds range, for example.
How Long Do Memory Foam Mattresses Last?
By and large, memory foam mattresses should last between 8 and 10 years.
Key indications that your memory foam mattress is coming to the end of its life is the appearance of sags, lasting indentations and a decrease in levels of comfort.
Of course, with Happy Beds, you’re protected by our 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee, so we’ve got your back if anything goes wrong.
Are Memory Foam Mattresses Good or Bad For Your Back?
Memory foam mattresses don’t have springs, which means they mould to your body shape, including your back.
This support means a memory foam mattress will provide pressure point relief, full-body support and facilitate healthy spinal alignment.
In rare cases, they may not help back pain. To find out more on how to solve back pain, read our blog on the subject: How to Choose the Best Mattress for a Bad Back.
Are Memory Foam Mattresses Safe for Children and Toddlers?
Generally, memory foam mattresses are not recommended for very young children and toddlers.
They are suitable for older children however, plus their hypoallergenic properties may be desirable if your child struggles with allergies.
