The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA, has conducted research that has shown certain types of physical activities can positively influence your sleep routine.Getting a good night’s sleep is vital in supporting your general health and well-being. When compared to those who carried out no physical activity, those that did partake reported having better sleep habits.Activities including gardening, walking, running and Pilates all had a positive impact.Michael Grandner, who was in charge of the study, explained:
"Lab studies show that lack of sleep is associated with poor physical and mental performance.”
He went on to say that additional studies were necessary to understand a wider range of activities and the impact they could have on sleep patterns, and how these patterns could benefit or hinder a person’s ability to carry out a certain activity. The research was a correlation of analysed sleep data and activity for over 400,000 adults. The amount of sleep secured was compared with the activity that was completed.
