Figuring out what your zodiac sign means for your personality is a popular trend nowadays, but what about your sleeping position? Did you know that the way you sleep can also say a lot about both you and your personality?
We’ve taken a look at some of the most popular positions that people sleep in and what it can mean about you!
The Starfish
Also called the Shooting Star, this position is when you lie on your back with your arms and legs spread wide. It’s not a common shape to make and is found more often in men than women, but you can feel assured if you find yourself sleeping like this!
The Starfish is a great sleeping personality to have, as people who sleep like this are often considered to be very generous with their time and friendship. This makes sense considering that the position is very open and welcoming, with their arms spread wide to invite people in.
Beware though, it’s not the best sleeping position for anyone who suffers from the curse of snoring. In fact, it can increase the risk of snoring and isn’t recommended for those who have sleep apnea either.
If you find yourself sleeping like a happy starfish, then make sure that you have a mattress that is comfortable and supportive for your back. We recommend taking a look at our range of orthopaedic mattresses to find the perfect mattress to make your sleep even better.
The Log
Don’t be upset by the ominous-sounding name here! People who find the log to be their more comfortable sleeping position can consider themselves in good company as it’s one of the more popular sleeping arrangements.
If you find yourself sleeping on your side, with your arms only extended out a little or tucked up under your pillow, then you’re a log sleeper. This sleeping personality is found to be generally easy-going and also very social, which goes against the rigid appearance of the position at first glance.
For any log sleepers out there, be careful though! This sleeping position also has the trait of being a little too trusting, so it’s important to take care of yourself as well. A downside to the log sleeping position is that it can lead to some neck or shoulder pain due to numbness, but a good pillow like our Panda Bamboo Memory Foam Pillow can help to avoid this risk.
The Baby
A more technical term for this would be the foetal position, but you understand immediately what kind of position this is. Unsurprisingly, this is the most popular sleeping position for people to sleep in. This makes a lot of sense though, as it’s the first position we ever sleep in and it remains something that brings immediate comfort and safety.
This sleeping personality matches the position perfectly, with people having a tough exterior that may be hard to crack. But get beneath the surface and you’ll find someone with a warm heart and a sensitive nature.
Professor Chris Idzikowski, of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, told the BBC that more women sleep in the baby position than men. Considering that this is one of the most comfortable sleeping positions for pregnant women, it’s understandable why women may prefer to sleep like this.
The Sky-Diver
This sleeping position is named after the eponymous position that people take up when sky-diving. Flat on your stomach, with your arms, either spread out above your head or slightly to the side, it resembles a person in free fall. Thankfully, it’s a lot safer than actual sky-diving but it’s surprisingly not a very common position to sleep in.
It’s not recommended for women who are pregnant, nor for anyone with back pain as it encourages people to arch their back while sleeping. There’s no surprise though that this sleeping personality is found to be more adventurous than others and also outspoken. Just like the scary activity that this sleeping position is named after, those who enjoy sleeping like a sky-diver are more likely to take risks than others.
Due to the strain, this position can place on your spine, it’s important to not have a soft mattress if you enjoy sleeping like this. A firmer mattress will help to reduce the risk of your spine arching even further.
