After a cold and dark winter, it’s fair to say our spirits could do with some serious lifting this summer. And according to experts, injecting bold colours into your interiors is a really good way of doing that.
"Colour is so influential in relation to how a room feels, therefore it can easily affect our mood and behaviour," says Dulux colour expert Andrea Lucena-Orr on the homestolove.com blog.
"If a space is dreary and emotionless, it can change the way we feel in that space. As soon as you enter a room that's bright or has a certain positive essence, you can't help but feel uplifted and reinvigorated."
With that in mind, perhaps it's time to consider a bolder colour palette when you next come to redecorate or refurnish a room? We’re not suggesting that you dive in headfirst and paint all your walls bright yellow of course, but you could certainly experiment with some subtle pops of colour here and there.
Here are some ideas that might just float your boat:
Introduce a Feature Wall
Bedroom feature walls are here to stay and, as an Interior Designer, they are one of my favourite ways of transforming and uplifting a space. They are perfect for those wanting to experiment with colour but aren’t feeling brave enough to go ‘all out’.
By keeping the majority of the walls neutral, the room will still appear light and airy, but the one wall you coat in colour will make a real style statement and draw the eye.
@agi_at_59 uses this technique perfectly in her kitchen with an inky blue all over the back wall and door, striking a sharp contrast with her white units. This, combined with the bright prints, can’t help but have a mood-boosting effect.
Invest in a Bold-Coloured Bed
Beds are an especially happy place for most of us, so why not buy a bed in a bright and cheerful colour to make your heart sing? Not sure which colourful furniture piece to choose? Well, the Loxley is both beautiful and bright, giving you a mustard bed that will certainly be eye-catching - and it also comes in blue and green too so you’ll be spoilt for choice!
There’s also the best-selling Brompton Fabric Bed in Midnight Blue which will give a sense of luxury and indulgence, as well as a feel-good factor.
Try a Colour Pop Sofa
Of course, bright furniture is not limited to beds. We’ve had plenty of new bold furniture such as chairs and sofas added to our website recently. Why not elevate your lounging experience by opting for a loud sofa like @at_the_merrells? It will pack a punch in your living space and, if balanced with muted décor, will make an elegant style statement.
Inject Colour via Your Accessories
This is a clever and affordable way of incorporating vibrant colours into your home décor. Think cushions, throws, artwork, and vases. House plants are also a great way of adding colour and bringing a room to life. Nothing screams ‘happiness’ like some oversized, lush green palm leaves! Using colour comes second nature to @oxfordone who accessorises her home to perfection with a huge array of bold and brave colours.
What’s Your Favourite Colour?
However you choose to introduce colour into your home, whether through bright furniture or a bedroom feature wall, be sure to pick colours you have an affinity with and that make you feel joyful. Home décor isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ affair, it’s very much a personal thing and you need to find the right vibe for you and your space.
Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone when introducing pops of colour, because as with most things in life, that’s where you’ll find your happy place. But, please do stick around and look around our blog, where you’ll come across more design inspiration.
