How to Use Texture in Interior Design: Makeover Your Bedroom

Joy Richards - June 18, 2019 Hi, I’m Joy - Happy Beds' Sleep Specialist. Aside from Italian food and my three lovely boys, nothing makes me happier than helping our customers find what works for them, and how they can make the most of their forty winks.

How to Use Texture in Interior Design: Makeover Your Bedroom

Adding colour to a room can add real vibrancy to a space. However, if all the same finishes are used, your bedroom can end up looking a little, well, flat. Not to worry though, I’m here to the rescue with a few simple tips for decorating with texture.

A Light Throw Blanket

Let’s start off simple. Whether it is placed at the bottom of your bed as a runner or is draped delicately over the back of a sofa bed in the spare room, a throw blanket is a simple and effective way of adding depth and texture to a room. Plus, it’ll provide extra warmth when you need it!

Opt for a chunky Merino wool knit, a tassel linen blanket, or a flush faux fur throw for optimum effect.

A Mixture of Cushions

Another effective way of adding texture to home décor is with cushions and pillows. Mix natural materials like wool, linen, and hessian with intricate patterns, braids or colours for an eclectic look that won’t disappoint.

Pair with a soft cotton duvet set and the aforementioned throw for a sumptuous bed you’ll want to dive into each evening.

A Plush Headboard

If you like luxury finishes, decorating with texture will mean lots of velvets, suedes, silks and satins. And there is no better way to add these materials than with a buttoned, cushion headboard. Not only will this feel amazing, but a glamorous headboard like this is sure to make a style statement too.

A Comfortable Chair

Of course, these high-quality materials don’t have to be confined to the headboard. At Happy Beds, we’ve a vast range of bedroom chairs in a variety of styles and colours.

Some of my favourites include the Bow velvet chair in the gorgeous sapphire colour shown above, the Florence snuggle chair in grey, and the Vivo fabric chair in mink.

A Stylish Rug

Last but not least, consider laying down a deep pile or woven rug on your bedroom floor. Something you can really sink your toes into when you get up in the morning. Not only will this look and feel fabulous, but it will also help protect your bedroom floor from wear and tear. Bonus!

Pick a material that contrasts to your bed upholstery and dressings for a comforting depth of texture.
